Chesapeake’s restaurant is located at 500 Henley St. in the downtown area of Knoxville, Tennessee. It is located in a restored historical building that is accessible by taking Summit Hill to Locust St. It is off of Locust Street on the right just past the Fire Station. It is tucked away in the corner just past a row of condos.
Chesapeake’s has been one of Knoxville’s favorite restaurants for decades. They have some of the best seafood in the city and the atmosphere is very refined and relaxing. I also love the 1930’s style full-service retro bar. Overall, the interior of the restaurant resembles the inside of a vintage ship. There are dozens of aquatic antiques here and there and they also have some very beautiful aquariums filled with brightly colored fish.
With the dim lighting and soothing atmosphere, Chesapeake’s is the ideal location for a first date, a wedding anniversary, or a relaxing night out with the family. It would also be a good location for office parties or large family gatherings. Just be sure to schedule your reservations well in advance for large groups by calling 865-673-3433. They do have private rooms available that can accommodate up to 35 people.
As for their seafood, it is delicious. They have live Maine lobsters in a large aquarium just inside the main dining room door. If you like, you can pick out your own lobster and have it steamed or baked and stuffed with crab imperial.
My personal favorite there is the Hot Appetizer Platter that comes with oysters Rockefeller, grilled shrimp, oysters Chesapeake, fried calamari, steamed crab fingers, and crab stuffed mushrooms. However, I’m allergic to mushrooms and Chesapeake’s has always been nice enough to substitute other items for the ones I’m unable to eat.
My fiance and I will typically add an extra soup and salad to the hot appetizer platter and just share. The crab bisque and New England Clam Chowder they serve is well worth the visit alone. They are both very hearty soups that are packed with flavor. The portions at Chesapeake’s are quite generous, but we try to save enough room for dessert. Their key lime pie is wonderful!
I also recommend their crab cakes as an appetizer. They are filled with large chunks of lump crab meat and are perfectly seasoned and served with homemade tartar sauce.
I’ve found the staff of Chesapeake’s to be very accommodating and well-trained. I’ve never been disappointed with a meal there or with the service and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves good seafood. Of course, if you have friends or family that will be dining with you who are vegetarian or don’t like seafood then they have plenty of salad and vegetable/side item choices as well as chicken, steak, and items from the kid’s menu such as burgers, grilled cheese, and fried chicken tenders. Chesapeake’s has something for everyone!
